National Train Day
To raise awareness of the vital role rail plays in the nation's transportation, Amtrak will celebrate the first annual National Train Day on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Union Station, Washington, DC, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York's Penn Station. Union Station activities will be throughout the Station: West and Main Halls, as well as the Amtrak Starlight room and Gate B. Serving as spokesperson for Amtrak for the event is Al Roker who will be at Union Station on the morning of May 10th. Sara Bareilles Band will be in the Main Hall at 1:00pm.
Amtrak's revenue and ridership have never been stronger. More than 25.8 million passengers traveled on Amtrak in fiscal year 2007 and their revenue increased 11%. During Amtrak's the first 2008 fiscal quarter, more than seven million passengers traveled and revenue increased 14.6
percent.
