Union Station Displays the Newest Innovation in Transportation Technology
Battery-electric bus manufacturer, ProTerra Inc., will be displaying one of their ProTerra V2 electric transit bus at Union Station D.C. at 3:00pm on Wednesday, July 09, 2014. ProTerra is an American bus manufacturer specializing in zero emission buses. The bus that will be on display on the West curbside of Union Station is a candidate vehicle being considered by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) for the replacement of the current diesel operated DC Circulator buses.
Members of the ProTerra manufacturing and design team will be available on-site at Union Station D.C. to give the public a first-hand look at the interior and exterior of the bus as well as answer any questions they may have. This stop is a part of ProTerra’s tour to build public support for their vehicles before the DDOT begins their procurement process, which may begin as early as this fall or as late as early 2015.
The ProTerra V2 is 6 feet longer and 2,000 pounds lighter than the previous generation. The bus boasts a puncture resistant exterior and a Toshiba battery that lasts 6 years and is able to charge from 5 percent to 95 percent in less than 10 minutes. The V2 is representative of the kind of new emerging technology that will take us into a more energy efficient, environmentally friendly, and cost conscious world.
