In celebration of the 150th Birthday of Arturo Toscanini, a musical gift to Washington, DC from Milian,Italy. The Chamber Orchestra of Cameristi della Scalla which is formed by musicians from the orchestra of Toscanini’s beloved Teatro alla Scala in Milan, will appear for only three special performances in Washington, DC. Two of the performances are by-invitation only at The Library of Congress and the Italian Embassy. But all music lovers in the greater Washington, DC area are invited to the concert in East Hall sponsored by SEUS client, Salini Impreglio/Lane Construction. Seating is first come, first seated; doors will open at 5:45 pm.
A cellist by musical training, Arturo Toscanini’s talents at the baton eclipsed his career as a cellist at a remarkably young age. From 1898-1908 Toscanini was Principal Conductor at LaScala and returned to the famed opera house as Music Director from 1921-1929. During his tenure as Music Director, Maestro Toscanini brought the LaScala Orchestra to the United States on a concert tour. On March 3, 1921 – almost a century ago -, that tour included a performance at Washington DC’s National Theater. (It’s been too long Arturo!) Toscanini left Italy at the outbreak of World War II and spent the remainder of his professional life in New York. Arturo Toscanini became well known to American audiences for the broadcasts by the NBC Symphony Orchestra which was created for him in 1937. Recordings of operas conducted by Toscanini were released on records and then CDs. Please join us for a very special musical evening in honor of Maestro Toscanini. Rsvp –firstname.lastname@example.org
